USE CASE: How Does Market Structure Impact Provider Prices?
Profile: Economists in the Bureau of Economics at the Federal Trade Commission conduct research to further the FTC’s missions to protect consumers from anticompetitive, deceptive, and unfair business practices through prevention and education.
Project Summary: FTC economists are using CO APCD data to study how differences in the structures of health care markets can drive variation in health care provider prices and patient utilization.
Benefit to Colorado: This project will assess the different drivers of variation in health care prices and spending. This information could prove useful to buyers of health care services and may help inform analysis of the impact of competition on market outcomes, which should lead to better value health care for residents of Colorado and beyond.
