October 26, 2022 – The Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC) Board of Directors has selected Kristin Paulson, JD, MPH, to serve as the organization’s next President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) upon the retirement of long-time CEO, Ana English, MBA. As CIVHC’s present Chief Operating Officer and General Council, Paulson comes to the role with a strong background in health data and population health as well as health equity and policy on both the state and federal levels.
“We are extremely excited to announce Kristin Paulson as CIVHC’s next, and third President and CEO,” said William Wright, MD, CIVHC’s current Board Chair and Program Medical Director at Colorado Access. “Kristin has the depth of knowledge, leadership skills, and expertise that make her well-suited to continue to advance CIVHC and the Colorado All Payer Claims Database (CO APCD). The CIVHC board is confident she will continue CIVHC’s legacy of ground-breaking innovation and analytics.”
In her role as COO, Paulson was responsible for critical areas of the CO APCD and CIVHC including data submission, intake, processing, quality improvement, evaluation, reporting, and analytics, as well as compliance and data privacy, and programs and research. She joined CIVHC in 2013 as Manager of Policy and Initiatives, leading the palliative care and care transitions focus areas as well as other population health initiatives.
Paulson has a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a Master of Public Health and Juris Doctorate from the University of Minnesota. In 2019, she completed a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy fellowship program in Washington D.C. She served on the Ways and Means health sub-committee where she worked on policy to improve data collection, quality, and access in the Medicare program, and did significant policy work towards reducing drug costs and supporting federal legislation to promote state development of APCDs.
November will be a transition period with Paulson and English both at CIVHC. Paulson will officially assume the role on December 1st.
“I am grateful to the CIVHC Board for this opportunity and to Ana for laying such a strong foundation for CIVHC and the CO APCD,” Paulson said. “There is still a lot of work to be done, and I look forward to continuing CIVHC’s strong stewardship of the CO APCD while strengthening the vital ties within the community that allow us to impact – and improve – the lives of all Coloradans.”
