Each year, the AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting (ARM) brings together some of the brightest minds in health services research to explore the data and strategies driving better health care outcomes across the country. In 2025, CIVHC made a remarkable impact at this prestigious event by presenting five posters — a testament to our team of passionate experts, our constant pursuit of innovation, and the versatility of the Colorado All Payer Claims Database (CO APCD) as a public resource.
Our presence at ARM wasn’t just about numbers. Our poster presentations showcased CIVHC’s role as a national leader in health data innovation and demonstrated how the CO APCD continues to be a powerful engine for change. From uncovering care disparities to testing the impact of reimbursement models, our work this year tells a compelling story of how actionable data can make health care more equitable, effective, and affordable.
Here’s a snapshot of each poster presented:

Ambulance Services in Colorado: When Emergency Care Isn’t Urgent
Many Coloradans rely on ambulance services, but are these high-cost interventions always used appropriately? This poster explores trends in non-emergency ambulance use and highlights opportunities to improve care coordination and reduce unnecessary spending.

Evaluating Health Disparities Among American Indian Populations
Using CO APCD data in collaboration with tribal and public health partners at Denver Indian Center, Inc., this project assessed disparities in access and utilization of care for American Indian communities in Colorado. The findings point to important areas for system-wide improvement and culturally conscious engagement.

Hospice Utilization: A Closer Look at End-of-Life Care
Hospice services can greatly enhance the quality of life for patients nearing the end of life. This analysis examined statewide trends in hospice use, helping identify gaps in service and potential policy interventions to support better end-of-life care for all Coloradans.

The Impact of Reference-Based Pricing on Health Spending
As health care costs continue to rise, Reference-Based Pricing (RBP) offers a strategy for setting maximum payment levels for services. CIVHC’s evaluation measured the financial and clinical impacts of RBP initiatives in Colorado, providing critical insights for employers, payers, and policymakers.
Autism Diagnosis and Treatment Trends in Colorado
Timely diagnosis and access to treatment can make a world of difference for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). CIVHC’s analysis of CO APCD data uncovers trends in autism diagnoses and service utilization across different regions and age groups. This poster highlights gaps in care and offers critical insights to help guide system-wide improvements in behavioral health support and early intervention services.
