USE CASE: Colorado Refugee ER Cost Analysis

Colorado African Organization (CAO) is a nonprofit organization that exists to support Colorado’s refugee, immigrant, and asylum-seeking populations in their pursuit of integration, self-sufficiency and freedom.

Project Summary: CAO is using CO APCD data to research and demonstrate how its Community Navigation Program provides not just individual benefits for the narrow population of refugees and immigrants that it serves, but also impacts the broader community and showcases a model associated with improved health as well as reduced costs.

Benefit to Colorado: Once complete, this project can contribute to the evidence-base surrounding hospitalization and emergency room utilization.  Additionally, the project can contribute to assumptions about program design and modification aimed at controlling variables that can impact health care costs. Final findings from this study cn improve health care, lower costs, and improve health outcomes for Colorado residents in similar Colorado communities.
