Hospital Price Transparency Database

We’re excited to announce the release of a new Hospital Price Transparency (HPT) Database for use in research, public policy, advocacy, and more.

Standardized Hospital Pricing Data

The original hospital-posted data has been standardized and consolidated into a clean CSV format, enabling analysis across individual environments. Supporting documentation details the cleaning methods and field definitions.

The HPT Database provides robust data for $10,000, with discounts available to nonprofits, government entities, academic institutions, and researchers.

The HPT Database includes:

  • Over 52 million rows of data
  • Pricing from 84 Colorado hospitals
  • Gross charges and negotiated rates at the payer and plan levels

Who Can Benefit from the HPT Database?

The HPT Database can support a variety of organizations and researchers working to better understand health care prices, market trends, and affordability.

Policy Research Organizations

Evaluating cost drivers and regulatory impact.

Academic Researchers

Performing advanced modeling with standardized data.

Consumer Advocacy Groups

Highlighting price disparities and educating the public.

How We Clean and Prepare the Data

Hospital price transparency files can vary significantly in format and structure. CIVHC standardizes and transforms the source data into a consistent, analysis-ready format that makes it easier to work with and compare.

Step 1
Import and Clean Original Files

Original files are run through a structured conversion process to align the data to consistent layouts and standards.

Step 2
Extract Data from Nested Tables

Code information, payer information, and standard charge fields are separated from nested tables.

Step 3
Build Row-by-Row Format

Nested structures are expanded so each negotiated rate appears on its own row with clear labels.

Step 4
Export into Clean CSV File

The transformed data is exported into a consistent CSV format, regardless of the original file structure.
