SUMMARY:National Health Decisions Day
DESCRIPTION:National Health Care Decisions Day (NHDD) is an initiative to encourage people to express their wishes regarding healthcare and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes\, whatever they may be. It’s important to understand that NHDD is not only about end-of-life care but is meant to reach a much broader spectrum so that every individual may have their healthcare wishes met. \nThis year’s event is April 16th. This is a national ‘holiday’ where organizations across the country work to get the word out about advance care planning. This is the second year in a row we’re helping collectively promote the great work that is happening that day and week. Click below to learn more and find out where to ask questions and complete advance care plans with experienced professionals.\n\n\nLearn more here

SUMMARY:Free Webinar: Explore Advance Care Planning
DESCRIPTION:Advance care planning addresses the health care you would want to receive in a medical crisis — based on your values\, preferences\, and conversations with your loved ones. \nThe COVID-19 pandemic has made this issue more pressing for many Coloradans. While there’s much we can’t control\, we can make informed decisions to give the people closest to us the power to confidently make health care decisions for us in the event that becomes necessary. \nAll adults should make time for these conversations\, but they’re especially important for those who are over 60 years old and are living with chronic health conditions such as heart\, lung or kidney disease or cancer. \nAlong with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Center for Improving Value in Health Care\, we will host a free 30-minute webinar on advance care planning Wednesday\, April 22 at 10 a.m. We will outline free resources to help you or a loved one explore the topic in an informed way. \nThe webinar will feature a presentation by Melissa Davis\, a licensed clinical social worker with The Denver Hospice and Optio Palliative Care. \nMelissa focuses on working with people with chronic and terminal illnesses and is highly experienced in helping clients and their loved ones negotiate difficult transitions and losses. Melissa is deeply passionate about biomedical ethics and advance directives. \nWhile there’s no cost for the webinar\, registration is required and space is limited. Please visit this page to sign up.\nFor more information about the webinar or for assistance signing up and participating online\, please contact Kari Degerness of the Center for Improving Value in Health Care at 720-484-4112 or KDegerness@civhc.org.

SUMMARY:Virtual Discussion: Do Providers Who Care for a Large Share of Medicaid Patients Provide Better Care for this Population?
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual discussion on Thursday\, September 17th\, from 9 – 10:30 am. This interactive event will feature CIVHC\, National Bureau of Economic Research’s (NBER)\, and local partners to discuss research results exploring the differences in quality of care for providers who serve primarily Medicaid or Commercial patients. \nThe results are part of a larger study by the NBER’s Center of Excellence in collaboration with several national organizations including Harvard Medical and Business Schools and the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement. Using data from four state all payer claims databases\, including Colorado’s\, the goal is to understand if providers specialize in caring for patient populations covered by Medicaid or commercial payers. \nThe researchers on the project will be joined by members of the Colorado health care community to dive into the results of the analysis\, discuss potential drivers of the findings\, as well as potential effects of payer specialization in the quality of care provided for the treated populations. \nConfirmed panelists include: \n\nBeth Neuhalfen\, Associate Director of Quality and Operations\, Denver Health\nBebe Kleinman\, MNM\, Chief Executive Officer\, Doctors Care\nWilliam Wright\, MD\, Program Medical Director\, Colorado Access\nCristen Bates\, MPH\, Senior Advisor of Affordability Partnerships\, Department of Health Care Policy and Financing\n\nWe are also looking forward to hearing from you as a valued stakeholder and part of our health care community! \nRegister now!

SUMMARY:Telehealth Services in Colorado: Understanding Trends and Use Prior to COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has the potential to indefinitely change how health care is delivered\, accessed and paid for. Expanded use of telehealth services is just one aspect of care that can greatly impact cost\, care and outcomes long-term. Understanding the impact of telehealth services on the health care system will be important for Change Agents across the state and nation who are trying to design a new normal that benefits us all. \nTo support these efforts around telehealth\, CIVHC developed a publicly available Telehealth Services Analysis using claims from the CO All Payer Claims Database (CO APCD). During this webinar\, CIVHC will orient users to the available data\, share use cases and interesting insights\, and describe plans to regularly update the information as new claims are processed over time. \nRegister now!

SUMMARY:Mental Health as a Risk Factor for COVID-19: A Population Health Assessment of the Pandemic (PART I: Initial Findings)
DESCRIPTION:The Population Health Impact Institute (PHII)™ announces a complimentary webinar\, which will highlight how mental health conditions can increase the likelihood of COVID-19 infections. This innovative research study used Trajectory® Healthcare’s epidemiological-based AI software using the Colorado All Payer Claims Data Base to track how co-morbidities impact the likelihood of becoming infected with the coronavirus. \nThe presentation will feature two nationally known thought leaders in the population health field and will include a respondent panel made of experts in public health\, medicine\, and health economics. The study found several key population health trends: \nPreexisting mental health conditions are a strong independent predictor of COVID-19; and\nA mental health diagnosis\, in combination with known COVID-19 physical conditions (i.e.\, diabetes\, asthma\, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease\, chronic kidney disease\, and hypertension) acts as a strong multiplier on predicting COVID-19 incidence. \nThe webinar will take place on April 12\, 2021 at 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. (ET). To register for this complimentary webinar\, click here. \n“We believe this study is among the first to discover that mental/behavioral health conditions\, including depression and anxiety\, interact with physical diseases (i.e. hypertension\, diabetes\, COPD\, asthma\, and chronic kidney diseases) in such a way to become a strong predictor of COVID-19\,” notes Thomas Wilson\, PhD\, DrPH Founder and Chief Science Officer Trajectory Healthcare\, LLC and PHII Board Chair. \n“As a result of the study findings\, current immunization strategies and outreach should consider putting individuals with prior mental and behavioral health history in high priority groups\,” adds Janet (Jessie) Sullivan\, MD\, Principal\, SE JNS\, LLC; former CMO\, Hudson Health Plan \nDr. Wilson and Dr. Sullivan are the study authors. A pre-print version of the study is available at SSRN: https://ssrn.com/abstract=3807198. \nGarry Carneal\, JD\, MA\, CEO Schooner Strategies and PHII Advisory Board Chair will moderate the webinar\, which will feature Dr. Wilson and Dr. Sullivan. The webinar panel responders will feature:\n-Rachel Nolan\, PhD\, Assistant Professor\, University of Cincinnati’s College of Medicine\n-Patricia Salber\, MD\, MPH\, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of The Doctor Weighs In\n-Deborah Viola\, MBA\, PhD; Vice President\, Data Management and Analytics\, Westchester Medical Center Health Network. \nA follow-up webinar will be hosted in June with additional findings on pandemic related changes in general utilization patterns over time\, the relationship between social determinants of health (SDOH) and COVID-19\, and medical and behavioral health issues subsequent to a COVID-19 diagnosis. SUMMARY:Data to Drive Decisions: Resources to Chart COVID's Impact in Colorado
DESCRIPTION:It is nearly impossible to understate the impact of COVID-19 on every facet of life in Colorado. In this webinar\, CIVHC will look at three COVID-related analyses that helped inform different aspects of the pandemic as everyone worked together to predict the impact\, minimize the risks\, and continue to serve the health care needs of Coloradans. \n• High Risk Populations: Early in the pandemic\, data from the CO APCD provided insight into geographic areas with Coloradans at high risk of severe illness should they contract COVID\, allowing for targeted intervention efforts and eventual vaccination planning. \n• Impact of Elective Procedure Cessation: When the Executive Order declaring a temporary cessation for elective procedures went into effect\, it was unclear what the impact might be on revenue to hospitals and other health care providers. \n• Trends in Telehealth Utilization: Many health care services had to continue despite the virus\, and providers of all specialties displayed remarkable agility and ingenuity as they pivoted to telehealth nearly overnight. \nREGISTER NOW
