The Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC) Names New Director of Communications

March 5, 2012 – DENVER – The Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC) has named Cari Frank (formerly Cari Fouts), Director of Communications. Frank, a Colorado health care development specialist and communications expert, joins CIVHC’s executive team.

Cari served for nearly four years as the Director of Communication and Development for the Colorado Rural Health Center (CRHC) before joining CIVHC. In her tenure at CRHC, she led the organization’s policy and advocacy work, directed outreach and communications efforts, engaged new members and partners, and identified potential funding opportunities to increase access to care in rural areas. Cari’s achievements at CRHC included launching the Technology for Healthcare Excellence (THE) Consortium to support safety net facilities with implementing meaningful use of Electronic Health Records (EHR), increasing membership revenue by 150%, and supporting national rural health care policy as a member of the National Rural Health Association’s Rural Health Congress. Prior to her work with CRHC, Frank spent seven years with the Colorado Foundation for Medical Care (CFMC) as a communications specialist and Colorado’s program manager for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s 100,000 Lives and 5M Lives Campaigns.

“Cari’s multi-faceted and tenured career in health care in Colorado, combined with her communications expertise make Cari a great asset to CIVHC’s team,” said Phil Kalin, president and CEO of CIVHC. “She has relationships with many of CIVHC’s current stakeholders and has been involved in multiple statewide efforts that are underway in our state to achieve value in health care. We are excited to add someone with her skills, knowledge and energy to the CIVHC team.”

In her new position, Cari will be responsible for developing and implementing CIVHC’s strategic communications goals. She will lead efforts to inform Colorado and national partners of the progress of CIVHC’s initiatives and engage new organizations in CIVHC’s mission. “Effectively communicating CIVHC’s work and being part of an effort to improve Colorado's health care system is an exciting opportunity,” Cari said. “I look forward to helping CIVHC achieve its vision by bringing my background in patient safety and quality improvement, safety net advocacy, and communications to the leadership team.”
