The Colorado APCD (www.comedprice.org) is a secure database that includes claims data from commercial health plans (large group, small group, and individual), Medicare and Medicaid. Created by legislation in 2010 and administered by the Center for Improving Value in Health Care, the APCD is the most comprehensive source of health claims data from public and private payers in Colorado.
Why Do We Need an APCD?
Our health care delivery system does not consistently deliver high-quality or cost-effective care. It is very difficult to identify where variations exist in Colorado’s health care system, and why. And, no one can easily compare quality and cost.
The Colorado APCD (www.comedprice.org) begins to answer important questions about Colorado's variation in health care cost and utilization such as:
- How much do we spend on health care in Colorado?
- Do common procedures differ in price depending on the facility?
- How has the use of health care services changed in Colorado over time?
What Information is Available?
Price information for services and total cost of care and utilization information is available publicly through www.comedprice.org, and custom data reports are available to communities, state agencies and other organizations working on specific projects to reach the Triple Aim of better health, better care and lower costs.
